Tonight’s the Night

Hundreds of freshman students will move in tomorrow.  Some of them will be in large Residence Halls like Wofford or Richardson or cozy halls like Margaret Nance or Lee Wicker.  Some will be traveling a long way and may be en route tonight.  Others will be getting up bright and early and driving the 3 hours or 2 hours or 20 minutes to campus with all of the stuff they’re bringing to make their room a home for the next year.

What are these students feeling tonight?  What are their parents or loved ones feeling?  What adventures await them while they’re here in college?  What will make their new rooms feel like home?  What community will they form?  Mirror, mirror on the wall, what’s going to happen here this Fall?

Preparations have been made.  There will be lots of campus ministry, Greek Life, and awesome student group folks helping people move in tomorrow morning.  The campus has been abuzz as everyone’s been getting ready for this important time of the year.

Enjoy every minute that you can of this new step.  During those sometimes awkward or uncomfortable or kind of weird times when you’re having to forge new friendships, navigate roomates, figure out those lulls in the conversation when you’re not with the people you’ve always grown up with – take a deep breath and know that it takes time and that you will get to the other side and though the journey sometimes is tough, it will also be absolutely life changing.

Also know that you have people out there that care about you and know you and love you.  Both those that you treasure at home and those that you will meet in the coming days.  Know that you have people to support you throughout this and don’t be afraid to reach out.

So excited about this year!  Can’t wait for tomorrow and for the whirlwind to officially begin!
